Where Are All The Black People? (WAATBP)

Volunteer Sponsor Outreach & Communications

THE RESULT

The work supported the event’s sponsorship outreach through clear, actionable communications. D’Shonda’s contribution focused on articulating the need, making participation accessible, and preparing the details required to coordinate prospective donations.

Supporting creative access includes the work behind the experience. This project applied storytelling and relationship-building to a practical community need: helping emerging creatives stay fueled for a day focused on their futures.

ALL PROJECTS

PROBLEM

WAATBP Career Essentials brought portfolio reviews, recruiter conversations, and networking opportunities to emerging creative talent. Preparing for an event expected to welcome approximately 300 attendees also meant finding food and beverage support to help sustain a full day of programming.

The outreach challenge was translating that practical need into a compelling invitation for brands to contribute.

SOLUTION

As a volunteer supporting The One Club for Creativity, D’Shonda Brown pitched food, snack, and beverage donations to prospective sponsors. The messaging connected each request to the event’s purpose: supporting multicultural creative talent and expanding access to industry opportunities.

Follow-up communications addressed two fulfillment routes—shipping or delivery and in-person pickup—with clear requests for donation quantities, timing, contact information, and partner logos. This gave prospective contributors a straightforward path from interest to coordination with the event team.
